Coolant Temperature Sensor Location
Coolant Temperature Sensor Location
Hi everyone. I have a 99 Trans Am, 5.7 V8 engine. My cooland level keeps staying on and I was told that it is the coolant temperature sensor that is causing it. Can someone tell me exactly where this is located? Thanks in advance.

Re: Coolant Temperature Sensor Location
You actually should have two, the sensor and the sending unit. If the sensor is bad it would likely have a high idle and it is located on the thermostat housing. The sending unit is on the block on the drivers side between the 1 and 3 cylinder, it only goes to the gauge.

Re: Coolant Temperature Sensor Location
Cylinder 2 is on the right side of the engine and cylinder 3 is on the left. On an LS1, the coolant temp sensor is inbetween cylinder 1 and 3, but that sensor is unrelated to a coolant level warning light.
The sensor for a coolant level is in the right side tank of the radiator. Most likely problem is that your coolant is dirty, and the sensor is fouled. System flush and a cleaned sensor might solve it.
