I am sure this has already been covered but I havent had any success searching. I have an 84 camaro with a 400sbc. It currently has a v belt set up. I want to install a serpintine sysem out of a 89 firebird. The water pump appears to spin in the opposite direction on the serpintine system. What do I need to do for this set up to work and cool the engine properly.

Use the water pump from the serpentine setup. It does spin backwards compared to the v belt one.

 

Just order a water pump from an 89. The serpentine water pumps are "Reverse Rotation", so they do spin backwards, but flow the same way as your 84 pump.

I have an 88 Serpentine Set up on my 84 Firebird and had the same question. Just make sure you get one for an 89 because if you get one that's "Reverse flow", you're wrong. Remember, REVERSE ROTATION, not "Reverse Flow (These were on LT1 Motors).

 

Thanks for the replies. I was confuzed on that. I will exchange the one on the firebird for a new one at the parts store.

 

I got a 400 in my 90 iroc and you have to use all 88-92 parts like water pump, alternator, etc.

 

I am pretty much going through the entire car. The power steering pump is shot. I am going to pull the engine and clean up the engine compartment because it look terrible right now.I like how much cleaner the serpintine set up looks.
