Coolant bottles the same?

I did a search and did not find anything. The coolant overflow in my 92 RS 3.1 has a very small crack at the lower mounting screw. I maybe be able to seal it up-have not looking into it yet, but the question is-is the coolant overflows the same on a v8 car as a v6? Also did they change over the years? I might go to Pull A Part this weekend and would not mind pulling a bottle while there.

Well the one yard has a 91 Camaro in, not sure what engine is in yet and did not want to get the bottle home and not have it fit.

Cool-thanks they also have an 89 there that I have pulled some parts from already. I think I'm going to stop in there as I am going by the exit for that yard anyways-that's a fast easy part to pull.

Re: Coolant bottles the same?

Yeah my TA has the smaller one and my Camaro has the larger one. So as long as I get the larger one I'm set. It's crazy how GM did so many little tweeks to the 3rd gens over the 10 year span.

Re: Coolant bottles the same?

Going to the yard tomorrow to see if there is a nice looking one. The one in my Camaro looks nice and clean, but has a slight leak where the OP cracked it, I might be able to seal it up, but if I can get a nice bottle for $5.00 at the yard then I would rather go that route. Sucks that I'm going to the yard on the way to the new car show as i will be in nice cloths and on limited time so not going to be able to pull alot of parts like I want to. I am going to try to pull the GFX door section from the passengers side as long as it there since my is warpped a bit.

As far as I've seen, the reservoir changes were made with the change from v-belt( +hybrid in 87), to serpentine. The washer fluid pump went from motor mount pump to tank pump as well.

Re: Coolant bottles the same?

the mounting from later to earlier style is the same, so they will both bolt in, i used to have an earlier style on my 91 camaro and it worked just fine. dont know if they larger will work on the earlier style tho because of clearance.

Why? The new one is $40 plus shipping and one at Pull A Part is $5.00. I went to the yard and both the 89 and 91 has no bottles in them. The 84 Trans Am had a nasty looking old style bottle in it so I left it. I may just pull mine out and try to seal it as it's a very slight leak by the one screw tab.

Re: Coolant bottles the same?

Ok I feel dumb as hell. I was at the yard this weekend and there was a 92 Camaro 3.1 there that had a bottle in it. All the screws werer off, but there is a bolt/stud inside the bottle that hold it to the strut tower. I could not see how to get in the bottle. I did pull the fender liner and seen the 10mm bolt that goes to that stud, but it just spun and spun and I never did get the bottle off the car-it was 27 out and I was getting cold and had to get going. So what's the trick to get the bottle out?

Still sounds bad as I still need to get the one off my car so really this was no help. Oh well I will get it at somepoint. My bottle is not leaking bad at all, very very slow so no big rush. Plus my Camaro is a budget car so anytime I can save money with used parts I will. I mean some stuff I'm going new, but body stuff, coolant bottles and stuff like that-used is fine.
