Heater Control Valve
Last night started up, let warm, shut off cause SES light was on, usually when I restart it goes out ..... Stupid EGR .... or IAC, once hot light goes off on restart.
did that and got to corner of my street and saw steam/white smoke coming out of the front hood, turned around - back into garage, pop hood, only place I saw AF was at base of heat control valve thing, dripping on manifold.
This morning started, ran, drove it this morning, no leak ????
Ran it hard for about 8 miles ... no problem
Was this just from a quick restart ?
I bought a new one just incase (16.99)- has this happened to anyone else ??

Re: Heater Control Valve
Water leaks can come and go depending on component material, temp and pressure conditions. Your diverter valve is located at one of the highest points in the system, and if you're water level is down, the leak may appear to be cured.

Re: Heater Control Valve
I went through about 3 of those things before I got fed up with them cracking and deleted mine and put a manual valve in instead. If you are interested in this I can show you how its done. Only downside is i have to open the manual valve whenever I want heat, which I rarely use.

Re: Heater Control Valve
Its just strange that it didnt reoccur.
Must have been a pressure burp or something cause of the quick restart I did ?
Thanks guys, I'll just put a new HCV in since I have it, replacing most things anyway ...
Thanks again, misery likes company

Re: Heater Control Valve
Got it to show me a few dribbles of green AF on a restart again.
So I let my 15 YO son install the new HC valve - Couldnt see a crack on the old one.

Re: Heater Control Valve
I had the same problem and am going to put in a brass manual valve. I put a Tee (part #15982138 ) in the spot where the heater valve was. I also bypassed the IAC housing. I will post some pictures if I get a chance.
