86 over heating

i was wondering if a hole in the gas tank and the exhaust barely hanging on would make my car over heat?

Not really. But it makes me think the cooling system is in the same state as your tank and exhaust

Re: 86 over heating

Any idea where I would look to try and see? Im debating if I should try and fix the car right now or get a different car and work on this one later

Re: 86 over heating

Check for water on the dipstick, check coolant level, check fan operation, verify waterpump rotation is correct, make sure the air dam is in place.

Re: 86 over heating

Plugged radiator
gummed up cooling system
stuck thermostat
failing water pump
Timing set incorrectly
Missing air dam
bad radiator cap
blown head gasket
cracked head

these and more can cause overheating

Re: 86 over heating

Does it get hot idling parked?

Does it get hot only when driving?

If it has happened more then once and is getting into the red you can cause major damage if you have not already.

Re: 86 over heating

If it's not boiling over, it's not overheating. Do not count on the in-dash gage to be an accurate account of the actual state of nature at the end of its sensor. Verify by other means.

Re: 86 over heating

it gets hot when im driving i cant test it idling because of the hole n the tank the only way it stays running is if i have one foot on gas n one foot on break. water pump was replaced n the head gaskets were suppose to be replaced the fan is on a toggle switch i turn on soon as i get n the car the timing was checked its set right

Re: 86 over heating

Sounds like you got major issues.

I would start by getting it running right first, then your cooling issue may go away.

Sending units can go bad, gauges are known for being off too.
