Re: Wiring fan to ignition
I'm not sure how you would do that, though. With the ignition in the "on" position and not running, that's the same position the key would be in after the car is running. Maybe someone knows of some circuit that isn't energized unless the car is running that you could ground that wire into? But that seems like a bad idea. Why do you want to do this?

Should be pretty simple to do; you'd use a relay in the alternator's field circuit, just like the Alt light.
Not sure how this could possibly be A Good Idea though. Can't think of even one single good reason why this would be superior to what's there now. The temperature-sensitive method of fan control is AHELLUVALOT more intelligent than some knuckle-dragging "turn it on all the time". Just because a thing can be done, doesn't automatically mean that it should be done.

Like sofakingdom said, having a fan running when the car has not even reached at least a temp. of 180* is useless and hard on the charging system. Just use one of these. You can even wire in a toggle switch that allows you to turn the fan off when running or off before it starts running. The switch is temperature controlled and is adjustable so you can set it where you want. Its also very simple to wire in.

Here's the diagram. It does not get simpler than this.

Re: Wiring fan to ignition
Will this kit work on a single fan unit? The way mine is set up is pretty much to a toggle switch and Ive noticed that the actual switch gets very hot, and then the switch usually dies. Dont mean to steal anybodies thread btw

Yes it is exactly what I use on my single 16" primary pusher fan.The stock fan is still there on the inside and is using the stock switch/temp of 200*(or close to that)as a back up if the temperature gets that high.
As far as your switch is concerned it sounds like its hard wired without using a relay. The switch may be rated for 30 amps but its not supposed to carry the fan directly. The relay allows you to use the ignition switch and the kit above allows you to energize the fan at a temp. of your choosing.. You may want to google = how a rely works. That is if you don't know already .Its very important to use them.
