Help finishing up a full A/C delete
Help finishing up a full A/C delete
Hey all,
Just popping in here for some quick help. I've decided I'm going all out w/my A/C delete, and removing everything/installing a non A/C heater box (I want to keep heat while maximizing engine bay space freed up/front end weight savings). I have most of the components removed. Just need to install my delete pulley on the front of the motor, and finish removing the old evaporator/blower motor housing.
It's the latter where I have some quick questions. I've removed the evaporator itself, and the top half of the housing, as well as the blower motor. I've removed all bolts housing the housing in visible from looking into the engine bay, as well as a good 6 or so 10mm bolts from under the passenger side dash. However, the rest of the housing still seems fairly stuck to the firewall.
What I'm wondering, is if there are more bolts to remove that I must remove the plastic heater core housing to get to? Or is it just old sealer on the firewall side that's keeping it on there? I ran out of time to find out for myself yesterday/just trying to find out on here before I go to the trouble of taking it out, or breaking stuff
(Getting to those top two heater core cover bolts is a PITA for me without taking the dash out).
I've included a pic to show where I'm at, for reference. Thanks for any help!

Re: Help finishing up a full A/C delete
There are a total of 7 10mm bolts holding the blower housing to the firewall. There are four in the engine compartment. 3 are visible (and clearly removed in your pic) the 4th is line of sight directly behind where your dipstick handle is in your pic.
There are 3 10mm bolts inside the car in the passenger floor area where the bottom of the box would be. One is visible (shown in the pic as the hole just right of the stud in the heater box), the other two are hidden behind a "flap" of the rubber backed insulation. These are the only bolts from the inside that hold the blower housing.the others hold the heater box. once these are removed the box will come right out...unless someone has glued the box to the firewall. from the factory its just foam weather striping sealing the box to the firewall.

If you're planning to make an AC delete box out of your existing box, i wouldn't recommend trying to break it off, it will likely bust up the housing pretty good. (i know this from experience lol!)
