I think it's broken
Pulled in to the garage after driving home. Clouds of steam from under the hood.
Thinking it was a hose or the rad, popped the hood and was greeted with this:
So what am I looking at here? Seems to take coolant from the passenger side head. The AC has been deleted.
Temp gauge was hovering about the 220 mark when I pulled in. It's about a 20 minute drive from work to the house, and it's not been especially hot today.

Re: I think it's broken
Doesn't look like anything too bad.
That black plastic thing with hoses coming out everywhere is a vacuum activated bypass for the heater core. It lets coolant pass through the heater core (matrix as I believe you call it over there) when you turn the heater on.
The bypass unit could have cracked or you could need new hoses. Its hard to tell, but that top hose looks bulged and like it may be the culprit.
Looks like this.

Re: I think it's broken
Oh hey - yeah, all good again.
Replaced the heater control valve and she's back to normal now.
Also just sorted the oil pressure switch and had the rear diff fluid changed.
Still got a niggling rotational noise coming from somewhere though, but that's for another thread!
