Buick Regal fan switch isn't working. Connector possibly??
Buick Regal fan switch isn't working. Connector possibly??
I recently installed a Buick Regal (Same as Grand National?) fan temp switch onto my 1992 Firebird, w/305 v8. The regal fan temp switch has two prongs and uses a pigtail connector. The original wiring in my car has a single wire. My question is, should I get the pigtail connector? (But then where would the second wire run?), or should I connect a small female connector onto one of the two prongs? Or should I install a normal size female connector to slide over both of the prongs? (Current setup, isnt turning the fan on at all) Or do I have the wrong fan temp switch? My firebird has a single fan setup. Thanks, any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking the two prong fan temp switch require an external ground, unlike the single prong temp switch which grounds through the sensor. I bet i can get it to work.

,Why don't you just get the one that belongs there.

Need to do a few things if you really want to do this. First, ground the wire that would go to the sensor and see if the fan comes on. Second, bring the engine up to temperature and see if you have continuity between the two posts on the new sensor. If the answer is yes to both, run a ground to one post of the new sensor, and the wire for the fan relay to the other. Probably the best thing to do is have the right temp sensor though. A $25 switch can save you a lot of problems.

I bought it for the lower temp setting. It'll probably work once I run a ground. Thanks for the advice.
it's definitely not permanant.
