AC Compressor Question

I have a 92 305 that I recently purchased. The previous owner was a hack so things in the car are rough.... Anyway, I'm looking at installing a new AC compressor because the existing one is locked up... Looking at the one in the car, it only has a single two conductor connector that apparently goes to the clutch. However, there's also another connector apparently coming from the AC harness that is just there! Not connected to anything, just hanging in mid air?

Researching the compressor for this model I see there might actually be two connectors one in front perhaps to the clutch and another in the rear, not at all sure what that is...

Can anyone confirm this for me and perhaps included a picture...

Thanks, Ron

Re: AC Compressor Question

I've only got an '89 schematic right now, but there is a high pressure cut-out switch. So the power comes to the high pressure cut-out switch first, then goes through that to the clutch connector. While this is a 89 schematic, yours is likely similar to that. The high pressure cut-out is usually on the back of the compressor.

Re: AC Compressor Question

Thanks to you both for the information.

I will research further but from you have told me and the picture I suspect it is the high pressure switch... Can you tell me if that is part of the compressor or is it a stand alone unit?

Thanks,
Ron

I can tell you that the switch in question IS NOT on a new replacement compressor. you may have to buy one from your local GM store

Re: AC Compressor Question

The picture actually shows the connector for the clutch located in the front of the compressor. It was so fried and mangled I had difficulty identifying exactly what it was and where it went. It should be a standard AC compressor connection so I need to go to the local savage yard and get a replacement plug. Then on to Autozone for a new compressor....

Thanks for your help.

Ron
