dual fans working together

Has anyone on this Forum back fed there right cooling fan to work with the primary left cooling fan? i plan on doing this so when the water temp calls for cooling ...Both fans come on .... and it would cool down quicker , (at this point not even sure second fan works) ,never seen it come on , The only possible disadvantage is that when Ac pressure sw closes, this turns on second fan ,this now would back feed the primary fan too . cant really see a problem with quicker cooling , .........Any thoughts on this Thanks

Re: dual fans working together

i have a dual fan set up that is wired to a switch. i flick the switch and both come on. you can see the battery voltage drop a little from the draw but it comes right back up. been like this for a long time.

Re: dual fans working together

only problem I can think of is the current surge of starting the fans together could cause a split-second ignition hiccup -if that does occur, could run the fans off of an electronic variable speed fan control that "soft starts"the fans or rig setup so one fan starts shortly after the other.Best to use separate relay and fuse for each fan so if something goes wrong with one the other will still be operable. The two fans running together will pull ~15 amps once up to speed-startup surge will be about twice that.

Re: dual fans working together

I did something of the sort awhile ago on my former TPI car. The secondary's temp sensor in the head was bad, but the relay was fine. I disconnected the green relay ground wire off that sensor, and tapped it onto the primary fan's green relay ground. The lights would dim slightly when they kicked on, didn't seem to cause any other trouble. I did it that way so the a/c would still trip both fans.

Re: dual fans working together

If you were to run both fans through a multiple resistor setup, by design it acts as a soft start and allows for up to 3 progressive speeds. I'll have to post some pics of a few I've done this past week. None were third gens.....I installed my fan control system on a 70 Monte, 69 Camaro and 57 Nomad in the last week. It is by far the easiest setup to install and run and parts can be replaced nearly anywhere.
