coolant sensor doesn't fit?
coolant sensor doesn't fit?
I have a 1984 z28 that I'm putting a 350 in. went to the auto store and got the temp sensors. the one on the passenger side for the ecm fits fine but i can only get the driver side one to go about half way. checked to see if anything was blocking the hole by using a similar sized connector off a 3/8 brake line and it went all the way to the block but was wobbly until flush. don't have the old sensors so i cant compare that way. was wondering if i got the wrong part? bought the part for the 305, did they change sizes on the 350. Rust clogging it?

Its a pipe thread tapered fitting. Uce some teflon tape and put it in. It will NEVER go all the way in. About half way is right, or 3-4 threads.
Re: coolant sensor doesn't fit?
i see...if i happened to get upset earlier and tried to force it would that have damaged anything? sensor still looks pretty good. thanks for the help!

If your threads are fine, you should be good to go. Don't forget to use teflon tape so it will seal.

They changed the size of the hole in the head around 1980 or so; so if your heads are older than that, they'll have the larger hole.
Go to the hardware store, hit the plumbing section, get a 3/8" NPT to ½" NPT bushing.
The one for the ECM is in the water outlet, on top of the intake. The one in the pass side head is the fan switch. The one in the driver's side head is for the gauge. Both the fan switch and the temp gauge sending unit may need bushings.
