Stay with stock single fan? upgrade? go dual?
Stay with stock single fan? upgrade? go dual?
Hey all,
So, long story short, I'm back at it on the project after another hiatus - Getting ready to remove the 305, and drop in a 350, among other things.
I'm planning to stay with my TBI set-up. My cooling system set-up is all stock at the moment, with the exception of a 2-core aluminum radiator. I was planning to go w/a new/lower temp fan switch (back when I was driving the car, the fan didn't seem to want to kick in until about 235), and maybe a 180 degree t-stat.
Which leaves me to wonder - Will the stock single fan on a 305 TBI car cut it for a somewhat mild 350? (Somewhere in the 275 - 350 flywheel HP range), or will I need to swap it out for something better? If it means anything, I have removed the entire A/C system too. Thanks!

I have a mild 350 in mine and the stock single electric works fine.
The lower temp T-stat will help, combined with a fan switch like this:
Jet fan switch 195* on
and you should be golden.
It's located in the passenger side head, just forward of the dipstick.
Factory fans were designed to come on at 235 for emissions reasons.
