Dual Cooling Fan Control Questions

I have an 88 IROC-Z with a 350 TPI that I want to tackle the total fan control on but I have some questions. First, is Willie still around to get the information from?

Second, I am having trouble determining which relays go to which fan. There are three large relays on the driver's side firewall. In addition, there is a large relay next to the battery (just to the passenger side of the radiator) that looks like it goes to one of the cooling fans. Any idea which relay is which?

Also, when I tap the Hayden fan controllers in to the existing wiring, do I tap in before the relays?

Thanks

Re: Dual Cooling Fan Control Questions
The three driver's firewall relays are 1) fuel pump, 2) MAF, 3) MAF burnoff.
The fan relay(s) are next to the battery.
If the Hayden fan controller is just "ground to activate" then you can just splice into the ground-to-activate wire.

Re: Dual Cooling Fan Control Questions
Pull the connector off of the first relay. Jump the two large gage wires on the connector. Note which fan comes on. First relay controls the fan you just noted.

I have used a few aftermarket controllers and was not impressed with the size of the wiring or the sturdiness of the controller. I've run them through the stock relay, allowing the aftermarket controller to engage the stock wiring. If the stock wiring is in good shape you get to re-use it.

Can't help with Willie. Just me and the lazy dog here tonight.

Re: Dual Cooling Fan Control Questions
I like the idea of totally independent circuits not only from each other but from any stock wiring.

I run two of these circuits/controllers and relays set at two different temperatures with a 180* thermostat.

As it has been suggested above , they are "ground triggered" relays so you are only using a tiny amount of amperage through the controller, and that is what makes these very nice because it allows you to use very basic, inexpensive controllers even on high amp fans.

Here’s the controller I’m using

Re: Dual Cooling Fan Control Questions
Isn't one of his fans controlled by the ECM ?

My car only came with one fan so installing another was as simple as running another circuit.

Sorry guys,
I guess I have cluttered up this thread.
Good info but probably not needed.
