Re: Long or short Water pump

How to tell the difference:

Q: Is your car from 69 up? (or if it's a Vette, 74 or thereabouts up?)

A: You need a long water pump.

Meanwhile, ALL water pumps for the serpentine system (the "reverse rotation" ones) since they are 69-up, are "long". Since there is no such thing as a reverse rotation "short" pump (in stock trim, anyway; it would be possible to create one), it's a moot point though.

Let's do that.

I'm sure you recall that the engine it was on was the smallest small block ever made: 262.5?

Thank you guys for your time. One would think that if it is so straight forward that the databases at anywhere from Napa to Summit would have that built in with their year/make search. Or maybe working as an analyst has me bitter to imperfect databases.

So Just for clarification I need a reverse rotation long neck water pump?
not being around my car for the next few months I'm having a hard time envisioning the front, is reverse counter clockwise rotation?
Any recommendations on something for a mild performance 383?

Re: Long or short Water pump

reverse rotation means it turns opposite the rotation of the crank pulley. older style v-belts wrapped around both so they turned in the same direction. Newer style, like yours, use a serpentine belt that is routed such that the water pump spins in the opposite direction of the crank pulley.
