weird fan

Greetings from Estonia.

Hi there. I have got 89 iroc Lo3 tbi and the fan behaves bit weird.. what it dose is when you start up the car it doesn't work, like normal (temp. low) and when you start to drive it comes on and stays on(when its cold). What im doing is shutting the engine off and turning ignition key on and waiting when the fan decide to stop. After that works well, engine warms up comes on like it should and go's off.

Relay? Fan sensor?

Thanks

Re: weird fan

Sounds like a shakey fan switch/sensor.

Welcome to TGO!!

Single fan?

The fan will not turn on until the car reaches operating temperature. Factory setting is 220*F or so (about 104*C). the fan will cycle on and off with the temperature of the car to keep it around 220*.

Does the fan turn on when you engage the AC?

There is a fan switch on the passenger head, just forward of the dipstick. This is the switch that runs the fan. Make sure the wire going to it is in good shape.

Find your fan relay, mine is on the firewall, not sure about the Camaro's. Make sure all the connections are seated properly on it. Mine worked loose causing an intermittant fan issue. I went through four relays before I found it.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you are still having issues.

Re: weird fan

I found the relay and found the wire what goes to the fan switch. And i located
the wire what comes from the fan switch to relay..and wired up directly. Opened the relay and seems to be fine.. and still... unbelievable still dose it. Sometimes works fine and sometimes comes on and stays on. Fan switch is replaced(brand-new)

Removed the AC radiator, hoses bla bla ,in principle everything only under the hood.
and Yes it did start the fan when you put on the ac in the car. But now it dosent come on because i wired up relay directly with fan switch.

please.. I just want to save fuel and most of all save the engine
