Temperature Switch

I suspect my temperature switch has gone out due to the fact that the fan will no longer kick on at the set temperature. It's a Jet brand switch set for 190 on and 180 off. Is there any way to check these, or is the fact that the fan won't come on a dead giveaway?

1. Run a 12v lead to the fan. Does it kick on when you touch it to 12v? If so, it's not the fan.

Most likely it's a relay or wiring. Does the fan come on when you engage the AC?

Re: Temperature Switch

The fan does work. It comes on when the AC is turned on. I recently put a new water pump on the car and the fan started working off of the temp. switch again for a few days but now it stopped again.

Re: Temperature Switch

If it works with the AC, then the fuseable link and overall circuit are good.

Find the relay, make sure the wires going to it are seated properly. Also make sure the wires going to the switch are good. Did you change the switch?

Pull the wire off the switch, turn the car to run, ground the wire to chassis ground. The fan should turn on.

If it does, then your switch is bad/needs to be replaced.

If it doesn't, then the switch may still be bad, but your relay needs to be replaced.

If you replace the switch, make sure you don't put too much teflon tape on it or it won't ground to the block when you tighten it down.
