whats up with this fan!?!?

Ive got a 91 camaro rs v6. Its got smog and ac delete. New 180 tstat, new fan motor relay, new temp sensor, and new temp sending unit. For some reason my fan wont kick until 240-245°... cruising down the highway the car runs 175ish all day then I hit traffic and just watch the needle climb. Somewhere around 240 the fan comes on and cools down to around 210. This isnt normal is it?

The fan doesn't come on until ~230 F, so depending on how accurate you think your gauge it is might be working as expected

Perhaps the gauge is off then. I wouldnt be surprised, my tach is pegged and my speedo is intermittent at best.. I think the oil pressure is screwy too as the pump isnt very old and the op gauage fluctuates with RPMs

Oil pressure does fluctuate with RPMs. Just think about it-the faster your engine is spinning the faster the oil pump is pumping, the 'holes' don't get any bigger so more fluid going through the same place equals higher pressure.

Re: whats up with this fan!?!?

Because they were both bad. Plus, why not shed an extra 60lbs or so? Did a cruise delete while I was at bc it wasnt functional. Everything useless in this car is coming out. The goal is be as light as possible when its all over. Why am I putting a glass cowl hood on a v6 car? Its lighter and I can... if I didnt think it would look lopsided and stupid id take the power steering out too.

It did however turn out that my brand new CTS is faulty. My fan quit coming on all together. Unplugged CTS and it comes on with the key now.

just because its a v6 doesn't mean it can't be a hot rod by definition.

Ok, if it wasn't working then I can understand that, I read that as you had taken out a working A/C system lol.

Oh no, in a black car I wish it worked. But at $260 for a compressor I'll take the $20 for a belt any day. This has been a low budget project dd for a year now.
