Temperature gauge help

just having an issue with my temperature gauge not working in my 85 Trans am with a 91 350 tpi. It worked no problem last year, car is next to flawless and I changed my hoses over the off season to new chrome ones. and now my gauge doesn't work when I started driving it this summer . I replaced the temp sensor and solved nothing. I hear there's a temp sender aswell?? Or pcm related? Computer is brand new and I'm not really sure where to begin short of sending it to a shop to get it diagnosed. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Did the sensor that you replaced look like this?

If not, that's the one you want

Re: Temperature gauge help

It's possible. Or the gauge in the car is bad. Follow the wire up from your sender into the harness and make sure it's not cut and grounded to something. That'll cause issues since the gauge is looking for a ground signal.

Re: Temperature gauge help

There's a temp sender that screws into the driver side head between the 1st and 3rd cylinder, sometimes the wire will make contact with the manifold/header and burn and short out. The sender itself is under $20 and easy to replace once you get a socket on it

Re: Temperature gauge help

take the green wire off the temp sensor in the drivers head and ground it with the key on it should pin hot and when you release it should go back to 0 if it doesnt move you have a wire problem or a gauge circuit board problem
