Using a flex a lite 31163

I was driving home, stop and go, and saw the guage up to 230. I realize its normal, but was thinking in order to control the fans that i would use the same controller i have in my truck (which has worked for 15 years or so). If I use this controller, will it confuse the ECU? thnx
