Oil Cooler Delete

Good morning all

I have been trying to do a little research and gather info before I tackle this, but there seems to be some conflicting info. I am going to delete my factory cooler on my '87 L98. Some threads say you need an adapter to take the place of the cooler and others say you can screw the filter right on, no adapter necessary. Can someone please clarify for me? I have no problem buying said adapter if necessary, I just want to be prepared so my car isn't sitting around waiting on parts. Also, there is the topic of needing button head screws to replace the factory ones that came with the cooler. Does anyone know the size(thread and length)?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Oil Cooler Delete

The spin on adapter is stock however you need to replace the 2 bolts with dowels for normal ones. The dowels keep the kc4 heat exchanger from spinning.

Okay so see if I follow you here.

I will not need to purchase an adapter. I can remove my cooler and thread my filter right on, but I need to press dowels into the tapped holes?

I am looking at the pictures from this thread and trying to follow what you are saying.

Re: Oil Cooler Delete

No the spin on adapter is held on by 2 bolts. The ones for your kc4 unit have dowels incorporated to keep the unit from spinning. Replace with 2 hex or allen heads and it'll be ok.

Re: Oil Cooler Delete

Okay I follow. From another post, is this the part number I need? #3952301 (replaced by #19299222)
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-3952301?

I found it on another thread you replied to
REF.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/cool...il-cooler.html

It looks like Summit references 5/16-18x1.125LG hex bolts to go with the adapter.
