Cooling fan relay

Cooling fan relay
Anyone know the location of the auxiliary fan relay for 87 TA with 305 TPI? Fans not coming on when AC is running. Or should I be looking elsewhere for the issue. Any help would be great

Re: Cooling fan relay
Hi Ralph,
Not sure how different Camaros are to TA's but I figure I'd give it a shot! Im guessing your TA has two radiator fans? If so, look towards the drivers side firewall the relays will look like this,
Note that its to the right of the brake booster. Also note on mine the relay all the way to the left I the pic is the one that is controlled by the ECM and I believe is the one that starts with the A/C (ECM gets the AC signal and turns the fan on). I don't have working A/C so I can't check for you .
The fist thing I would do is with the key on and engine off have some one turn the ac on and you should here the relay make an audible click. There is a chance it could be the other one but at any rate if the relay clicks and the fan doesn't come on, before replacing it I would verify that there is in fact voltage (12V) coming out of the wire going to the fan. It's a thicker black wire in mine. If there is no voltage I would test the orange wire going into the relay. If there is voltage Coming out of the black wire though, then check at the fan to make sure the voltage is getting there. If it is, bad fan if not, bad wire. If there was no voltage coming into the relay via orange wire then we will have to do more digging.
Try this though and report back your results

Re: Cooling fan relay
Thx for all the info, did locate the relays at the passenger side of rad, both are working. New issue is the AC is not that cold, 70 coming out of vents on max. Tried charging with store bought can of 134a with gauge and gauge read full, in the red zone actually. Let some of the 134 out of the system to get it in normal range. After doing so had to jump the AC clutch relay to get it going again. Still doesn't seem like I'm able to inject 134 into system, air from vents not cold at all. any thoughts?

Re: Cooling fan relay
Was it working before? Was the compressor turning when adding the 134 ?
Needs to be even if you have to jump it to get it going before adding anything

Re: Cooling fan relay
Update on TA Air. Finally have AC working, could not get the system to charge so I wound up renting the tools and evacuated the system. After pulling vacuum on the system I let it sit to make sure there weren't any leaks. Recharged with 134a and now putting out 48 degree air. The clutch does not cycle on and off continuously like before until you increase the RPM's. Passenger side fan comes on as it should. Driver side fan has not come on, I'm assuming the car has not reached temp to kick this one on. The only part that was replaced was the switch for the clutch. The tool rental from Autozone was 300 or so but all that money is returned.

Re: Cooling fan relay
Driver's side fan is the primary fan I think. If passenger one comes on, driver's side comes on. Could have a primary cooling fan problem. Both fans should come on when AC is on. Note the "Fan A/C Pressure Switch" and "Heavy Duty Coolant Fan Switch" near connector S122 in the diagrams below. Either one kicks on BOTH fans.
