AC Compressor Manifold Leaking

I have a 92 305 that I recently replaced the entire system as well as converting to 134a. Everything has been working just great until a couple of day ago. I noticed some oil under the car! I assumed it was engine oil but couldn't fine the source. Finally I noticed oil residue around the AC manifold! I was very careful when I installed it, so I'm not at all sure what the real problem is...

Before I take everything apart, I'd like to check the proper torque on the manifold bolt. I know it's a long shot, but it's worth looking into... So can anyone tell me the proper torque for that bolt?

Thanks,
Ron

If you used the correct bonded washer seals, it's probably not the manifold that's leaking. The R4 likes to puke around the shaft and case seals, and if equipped the pressure relief valve likes to puke with R134a due to the higher pressures.

Re: AC Compressor Manifold Leaking

Drew,

I replaced the entire system, everything, and while I was at it I converted it from the R13 with the 134a. So is there a problem? High pressure too high? What do you think?

Thanks,
Ron

The 1991 book says 25ft lbs for the manifold bolt.

Did your replacement compressor come with seals? I know early vs late R4s used a variety of different seals, just wondering if the seals could have been mismatched. Pretty sure by 92 they were using the metal/rubber bonded washers instead of O-rings, but I've also seen aftermarket compressors with a variety of seals to work with different cars.

Drew,

Yes I replace the seals on the manifold with new. BTW, I also replaced the manifold and all hoses... The seals came with the compressor. As I recall, they were metal/rubber as you say.

Thanks for your help...

Ron
