Thermostat housing removal and re-install

Car is an 88 LB9.

Is there some special tool to get to the bolts on the tstat housing? I can barely get a combo wrench on them, and then I can only go like 1/16 turn at a time.

There has gotta be a better way.

Re: Thermostat housing removal and re-install

If you remove the Throttlebody you have more access to the inner bolt.

Yeah but then there’s another gasket you have to replace.

Re: Thermostat housing removal and re-install

I just used a socket with a long extension when I replaced my thermostat, the bolts came out pretty easy putting them in you need to be careful they don't cross thread though

Re: Thermostat housing removal and re-install

Just remove the 4 bolts in the throttle body and push it aside far enough to get access to the t-stat housing bolts. Trust me, it's 100 times easier than trying to get those bolts out with the throttle body still in place.

You more than likely won't need to replace the throttle body gasket, but so what if you do? It's probably 5 bucks.

Those 2 liquid hoses going to the throttle body aren't cooling it, they are heating it. I did the TB coolant bypass. Those hoses are gone.
