in my radiator ? what is it

hi,

I have one question, what is it this stuff surrounded in red on my radiator, a sensor, temp switch? I used for ?

I have follow the wire but never seen something...

My car is a trans am 1987, the radiator is not the original stock, I am going to change it very soon by an new champion EC951, because my car overheating....

Normally used on the digital dash cars to show that you have low coolant on the center display (which Is called the DIC...).
