heater core and the ? hose

Greetings All;
I had some antifreeze leaking from the back of the motor. (86 iroc-z w/ lb9 305 tpi)
Thoughts like a freeze plug were dancing in me head... ugh.
Well while checking hoses I found a rip in the ? hose that comes off the heater core, down the firewall to a pipe that goes around the wheel well to another hose and then to the radiator. I got the hose off of the heater core with no damage (yeah me) but the ? hose down between the motor and firewall is a different animal.

How have others here replaced that hose? Pull the distributer? Talk about a bad spot. Hood have to come off to get better access the area?
GM also has a wiring harness in that area too.

I bypassed the cut hose for now by running a line from the heater core to the radiator but really want to get it back to normal again.

Thoughts?
Thanks

Re: heater core and the ? hose

So, has no one done this job before? I'm about to tackle it and am wondering the same thing. I'm hoping that I can just take the whole pipe assembly out and attach the hose that is behind the head. Or at least, get it loose enough to reach that lower clamp.
I don't see how you guys work on these cars. They are not maintenance friendly.

I taped a razor to a paint stick and reached down and sliced the hose to get it loose. Then just reached down to clean off the pipe from above. I didn't need to pull the distributor out or anything, but it was tight.
