Negotiating ECU Response????

Got my DFI unit installed. Got a prob though.........I cant seem to get my laptop to communicate w/ my DFI.......hence I cant tune it. I need some help quick.........all cables are hooked up properly...Is there a certain command I have to type in when my Accel screen comes up or anything I may be overlooking? The quicker the better.....I wanna go to the strip tonight!

Make sure all your power and ground connections are good. check with a multimeter to make sure you have power to the computer.

If you can, run the calmap from a DOS Box, if you have windows 95-98 you can tap F8 when it first starts booting, then select command prompt only. Make sure your serial ports are working, by default, you need to be plugged into COM 1, if you have a mouse in COM 1, unplug it and plug the DFI into it. if that doest work, try running it from COM 2 I think it's a command line switch, like calmap -com2 or something, check yer book.. good luck!

i take it your using a 6.somethin box? you need to be dos only -boot up (if you are using a windows based computer) in "safe mode command prompt only". hold down ctrl. or f8 to get the menu, unless you have already added the lines to msdos.sys file to present the menu option at boot. configure com one to 9600, 8, n, 1. how fast is the computer your using? the fastest recommended is like 133 or thereabouts, but ive seen on these boards some people are having luck with faster processors too. if running 6.32 the option to use com 2 is there- when in the calmap directory, type "calmap com2" and that will set the port. make sure is set to the above specs. also. there is a program to slow your computer down a bit that works o.k., its called bremze check C-net downloads. need some more details to be able to troubleshoot the problem, without having to cover all the possibilities. so back to you. :lala:

I'm running the 6.32 version and I just start mine up from my desktop and it does fine.

Now ya'll don't bite my head off but do you have the key in the on position. If you don't, it's not going to connect when trying to "EDIT ECU".............I'm just asking.

All I did was create a shortcut for the .exe and that was it. It brings itself up in the dos format. Give me until Monday or Tuesday night to zip it up for you and I'll shoot it over.

DFI 6.0 will have a problem communicating with laptops that have a processor faster than 166mz. Some people have gotten Cal-map 6.32 to run and communicate with Windows 9.x. The problem with running with Windows 9.x is that over time, the file can become corrupted when editting in the Windows enviroment. Another problem is that Cal-Map might not recognize the communications port because of the Windows enviroment.
