Using Moates ECM and I bought the cable from Steve Ruse at WOT Electronics. The software is telling me i need to connect a resistor to A&B. Is this right? If so what does it mean A&B? Also is there a way to check the ALDL to see if I have good connections or to check the ECM?

If you infact have a 90 Z28 you don't need to connect A&B together. THe reason for that is to make the older 165 ecm spit out data at the faster 8192 baud but the 730 ecm always spits out at that speed. A at the ALDL should have ground. M at the ALDL should have 5 volts. And of course you need to have 12v to the cable and PC. A good indicator of the ECM working is checking for a "SES" light and of course if the car runs well....FWIW, I have a Ruse kit and a plain old two transistor cable and both work fine.

 

Where do i run the 12V to the cable? I thought I just plug it in and I have the laptop running off of the cigarette lighter charger for it. Also what programs will work with the SD 90-92?

Hmm, I don't know what cable you bought from Ruse but if you email him he will help you with any question you may have. I have 12V to pin 25 or 13 (they connect on the converter) on the ALDL side of the converter on the parallel plug connecter. This powers up the converter and the serial port. What programs do you mean? ALDL programs? I like Moates but there are several free ones and some that aren't. If you go diacom, you need to get their cable which comes with the software. If you check out the AKM site under one of the links on the side for data software or something you will find a pretty large list.
