ECM Type?????
How do I know what type of ECM I have (165,730,727,749,.......). Can someone give a brief discription of the differences?
My car is a 1989 TPI 350 with MAF.

The ECM that came in 1986-1989 TPI Fbody's and Vettes is a series 1227165 (165). The ALDL data rate in this model can supply diagnostic data at 8192 BAUD. The (expanded) data stream of 64 Bytes cycles through every 62.5 milliseconds (16 per second) at this BAUD rate.
check it out.

Thanks.
As I couldn't really clarify this question on the site, what are the differences between the different types of ECM, as far as what they work with. Is the 165 used in all MAF TPI's, and the 730 for SD TPI's?

ie the 1227165 was also used in single barrel S10 TBI systems. In the Australian version of the 165 (called the 808) it's MAP.
The 1227730 was used in TBI, MAF, and MAP applications.
Just a matter of wiring, firmware and software.

I have a 730 sitting on a shelf right here. One of these days I might get board and switch over to run my TBI setup.
Do you have any more info on that?

The injector driver in the 730 can do one P+H TBI injector, 2 P+H Port injectors, or 8 saturated port injectors.
I think the bin was an ABBT. Was years ago when I looked at it.
If you want to run a TBI with a P4 ecm, then look at a 749. I've run a 2 brl TBI on a 749. Other then the faster ALDL not worth it in my book. Might look at a later model TBI PCM. Just have to see what the flags are for VSS sensing.
