Confused about the 16144288 ECM
I've searched around google for quite a while, and found some articles on this site as well, but none of them really answered my question (I hope you guys can even though I don't have a thirdgen anymore
)
I'm in the process of building a 383 for my '92 Chevy truck, the truck currently has the 16144288 ECM, and from what I understand it has certain code stored directly on the board rather than in the prom...
I basically have two questions at this point:
1) Is there a way that I can burn V8 code to this ECM and make it run without swapping ECM's. For example the 1227747 code comes to mind since it was in V8's as well. I understand burning and I have the equipment I just wasn't sure since I read the article about this ECM having code stored directly on it rather than all being in the prom.
2) If not #1, can I directly swap the 1227747 ECM in place of the 16144288? Will the harnesses be the same? Do I need to change any of the pinouts to make it work?
Thanks a lot!
Tony

It's a 1992 Chevy Stepside 4.3l Automatic (700R4)
I'm putting in a 383 and most likely another 700R4. Going to be swapping all the respective TBI parts to 350 such as the TB, intake manifold, knock sensor(s), etc. I just wanted to make sure I could base off the 747 code (since it's already V8) and burn this on the 2732A in the 4288 ECM.
Thanks!

The Mask / Program IDs are different
Try www.tunercat.com and see if he has an editor for it.
Maybe Need4speed has a better answer.

You need to switch to the 7747. It's real easy. On my Astro I had to switch pins A11 and D2 in the ECM harness.
The 4288 ECM has the CALPAK soldered to the board. If you try to run the $42 code in the 4288 it will immediatly throw a code 51 and disregard the PROM.
Been there, done that
