GTA runs like crap
GTA runs like crap
I have no idea what's goin on with my car...it doesn't want to idle unless I keep my foot on the gas, and if I drive it, it sputters when I mash the pedal...the chip is basically stock...my engine specs are listed in my signature...can someone give me some advice please?
i had same issue with stock computer. if you are reading manifold vacuum the cam is confusing the puter into thinking throttle is open when it is not dumping in xtra gas. i assume your car has a map sensor? time to consider tuning. i did not see any comment on having tuned eprom.

if you havent had a chip programmed it might be time, even just to get the most of your combo, but i would do the basics first, check for vac/air leaks in the intake tract and etc., tps operation, and iac
pull a plug, i bet pig rich. your puter still thinks a stock engine and is giving you too much gas at part throttle/idle and too little at mid to upper throttle. time to learm the ABC's of tuning and jump in head first !! this is so exciting another candidate for burning chips!!
I feel I am also a candidate for the chip burning thing. I just replaced my 19lb injectors with 24lb SVO injectors in my 355. I have a ZZ9 cam, 1-3/4 slp heders, roller rockers/lifters. It ran alright before the injector swap, but now runs very poor. I have the fuel pressure turned down to 40psi.
I had an origional 305tpi chip in it, but upgraded to the stock 350tpi chip. This made a huge difference, but now I figure the chip is causing my difficulties.
Time to start doing some homework and figure out what is involved in burning my own.

first thing is borrow/buy a laptop. mine is very old and works well. then scan/datalog and you will see what is happening. i have a speed density(TBI) so you map guys confuse me! seems like a different language. would be nice to split the topic into two areas of tuning. but i am new at this so maybe off base.

Thanks for your thoughts Ronny. I do have a scanner and have started poking at getting readings. However this is going to be a hugh learning process for me. I figure I will have to frequent the boards here a lot to figure things out....
i was where you are 60 days ago. now on chip burn 25 or so. from the perspective of basic tuning 101 i was lean day one everywhere. my cam was very mild just a step or two above stock. ended up richening up everywhere and then back down per my blms/readings. on WOT that was a guess. since my stoich was close and WOT was an add on, i set at 12.0/1, and i guessed close. was at 12.1 on dyno so now i believe i am a little leaner having made a small correction. pump shot went up 150 of stock !! that is what tuning does.
Wow! That sounds awesome. I can hardly wait to start burning. I figure I will get to the programming 101 stuff offered by the board and start learning. Winter is just around the corner and it is just about time to store the car. Bummer! Well next spring will be the time for trying out the chips if all goes according to plan..

just out of curiousity whats the craze with chip burning? one guy said he was on chip 25!
is there something wrong with mail order chips and PCM'S,
i dont know **** about burning chips, it seems interesting and what not but it seems easier to have someone with a proven name in bizz. do one for you,
sometimes i read about guys pulling their hair out trying to figure out the right fuel map or whatever and have tinkered with like 10 variables on a peanut cammed motor , it seems like people are fixated on spending days and weeks burning chip after chip on a relatively mild car,
then again there is only one way to learn and thats by trail and error......no disrespect lads'

many of us have modified out cars so that the eproms need to be changed. my mods are intake, TB's, FP, cam, high compression aluminum heads, rockers, no emmishions, dual exhaust, headers, 7747 etc. car wont run with stock eprom period. some computers like my stock unit were not hacked. the 7747 swap was a nice alternatiive as it is probaly the mosty hacked unit and well supported. sure a chip can be ordered but since each persons mods are diffferent and the cars in diff state of tune it is difficult to get it accurate with just by a phone or fax on the mods that were done. Only by data logging can a prom be fine tuned to produce the desired result. i have met people that went that route and required mutible attemps through mail and still were not right. kinda like ordering a fine suit mail order(large) vs a custom tailor doing in house. hey this is too tight in the nuts.
