PROM original or not?

The guy who sold me my GTA told me it had a "performance chip" in it, but I don't believe it.
Can anyone tell what this PROM came from?
The numbers are; "Delco ABWC 8602" & "68767 8641".

My car is a low mileage '89 GTA 5.0 5 speed.

Thanks already!!!:hail:

ABWC8602 is a manual trans, 5.0L Firebird/trans Am for MY 1987 LB9 HO.

Does it look like the sticker was possibly removed and reattached? Such as to erase the chip for a re-burn.

No, it doesn't really look like it was reburnt or tampered with.
Actually I don't think that there are many people in Europe who know that stuff. Maybe in Canada sometime before '98 when the car came this way, but I don't think so.
He did say he replaced the ECM and that seems to be true because it says Delphi electronics remanufactured on the side.

What is interesting is tha tmy information shows that the ABWC is for a 1987 car whereas you have a 1989. It is possible that the performance chip was in the other ECM and got swapped out at the same time.

Well, the seller told me he had a performance chip in it that he got from a friend who owned a similar 5 speed TPI.
If this info is correct than his friends car probably is/was an '87 5.0 5 speed.

The fact that there is an '87 PROM in my '89 might also explain the problem I have with the car's idle (when cold) The idle speed keeps going up to 1500 back to 500 or lower (sometimes it even stalls) then up again, then down, then up and down and so on.............I read somewhere in a HPP Tech Q&A story that pre'89's have a ninth injector for cold start (providing extra fuel).....whereas'89's and later have this extra fuel addition programmed into the PROM.
If all of this is true then my '89 isn't getting the right input from the PROM which causes it to run strange when cold!!???!!!!

You should really get an 89 manual prom.. the 87 was a different setup, slightly..

This information is correct. With out the cold start injector it is running lean until warmed up.
