Which ECM should I have

I have a 1989 Firebird with a 2.8 engine. I need to get an ECM computer for it. Can someone please tell me which one I need. I have done some research but have been unable to find the computer #. I think it is 1227302 but would like confirmation before I purchase it. The car does have the VATS system. I do not have the one (computer) out of the car. I recently purchased the car and there are several things unhooked and/or missing.

Thanks for the help

Michael

Yes, the '89 2.8l has a 1227302 ECM. Not sure what you mean by not having the VATs out of it. Along those lines I believe the first year for VATs was '89. Not having the ECM & MEMCAL means that you will need to get an ECM from an '89 car (Camaro or Firebird). That is only if you wish to keep the VATs system. An earlier year will work otherwise.

Also try to match the transmisison type. This is important if you have an auto as the ECM controls the TCC lockup. Not so important if you have a stick, shift light will be goofy though with an auto MEMCAL in a stick car.

Sorry about the confusion, I have fixed the first post. What I should have said is I don't have the computer out of the car.

Thanks for the information, now I will research the MEMCAL so I can make sure I get the correct computer.

Thanks again

Michael
