16198262 ECM swap?

16198262 ECM swap?

I currently have a 16198262 ECM that I plan on making my own harness for from an old MAF harness. I am doing a conversion from a 92 TBI to a TPI MAP system using the above mentioned ECM number. My question is is there anyone who has used that ECM number for the TPI system. I did some investigating and found that it should interchange, but I also found out that those year Berettas and Corsicas used MAF and MAP. I need some help somewhere here. Thanks. Tibo.

The 16198262 is the new number for the 1227730 ECM. It is the same ECM. So you are good to go for a SD TPI (MAP) setup.

You should use the wiring diagrams for both. At a minimum for the new ECM. If the TBI harness is still in place it may be easier to leave it and convert that to the MAP/SD setup for the '730. Can use pieces of the MAF harness in the conversion (injector section, IAC).

I was one step ahead of you there and had already read that thread/article, thanks though. Where can I buy one of the re-pinning tools? I think I confused you with what I was going to do though. I plan on using the 8262 ECM and the connectors that I already have for it. Then I am going to solder the wires from the MAF harness to the little wires still remaing on the ECM's conectors. I did think about reusing the old TBI harness, but this way I wont have to elongate or change any wires, just add. But I didn't know that I didn't have to use the ESC, (looks like I get a new MSD distribitor) Thanks.

For a re-pinning tool I took a 1/16" diameter rod and hammered the end flat. Then cleaned it up with a file. Pu a loop in the other end for better control.

It sounds like you are planning to splice all of the harness wires to the ECM connector wires. It is much better and easier to just pop the pins out of the connectors and place them into the correct connector location. That is a lot of wires to splice otherwise.

You were right that it would be easier to un pin and then re-pin the wires, it will look much better also. It took some practice, but after the first 20 min. I got the hang of it. I used a small jeweler's flat head screwdriver. Just in case though, where might I be able to find more of the little crimp connectors at? dealership, radio shack, parts express?
