There are a buch of cars that runt he '730. Check TGO's ECM interchange page:

https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...erchange.shtml

They tend to be cheaper if you say one for a lessor car. You'll need to use the MEMCAL from your current ECM.

Autozone for $65.00 for a '730.

The core charge is $150.00 though!

Revised numbers

I'm almost certain if you get it from GM it will be p/n 16198262.
This is the latest revision.
I'm not sure what has been upgraded, but I've heard rumors of the original boxes had problems.
If anybody knows what has been changed, I'd be interested to know as well.

Nope, the 730 is about the industry standard for being reliable.

Now the 1227165, was a problem child. The early 165s just didn't have enough solder used.

The update to the 730 is just adding another Ram chip, so as to make it more usinversal in what it can replace, part number wise.

If you have an 8262, and 730 the change is obvious if you look at the Circuit Board.

Well, sometimes (depending on the intelligence of the counter person) you can get away with quite a lot.. I went into Advance Auto Parts to buy a replacement 730 (cardone part # 77-7730 if it matters to anyone) ecm since mine took a dump right after I got the swap done (talk about confusing me after I get finished putting the motor in, it kept cutting out to limp home mode and acting all funny). I took my old ecm that came from my 1988 MPFI 2.8L V6 bird (is different size with completely different connectors) since I wasn't 100% sure that my old ecm was bad at that point and didn't want to sacrifice it as a core if it was still good. I told him that its a updated ecm design and that I already had the retrofit piggyback harness adapters for the connectors ( ). Poor kid was worried I was getting the wrong part, and I just said "It's cool, I'll take it".
