Help!!! engine wont start and check engine light does not turn on

Help!!! engine wont start and check engine light does not turn on

i have a 86 trans am with the 305tpi... it started at first drove 20 feet then died and would not start.. when i started looking for problems i noticed that the when i turned the key the check engine light does no longer light.. is there a fuse for it under the hood or what could be the problem?

Please help

IIRC there is an ECM fuse hidden under the hood, on passenger side along the fender. It is part of a cable that runs from the junction block (on rad support) back into the EFI harness.

It may be up closer to the battery or in front of it. On that particular vehicle I can't absolutely say where it is.

Also check the fuse block under the dash.

i checked all the colored fused.. could it be the metal silver ones?

could it be the ignition switch..the guy who i bought the car from said he installed a new one.. maybe not telling the ecm to turn on?

Absolutely (to the ignition switch). The silver ones are circuit breakers and if operating properly will reset. Of course one may be bad.
