’89 vs ’87 TPI code
Since there appears to be a good $E6 .ecu file available, but no $32 or $32b ecus I decided to try starting with what was identified as 89Z_TPI_350_auto_327_stk_APYU_1.bin
In my ’87 formula with the same engine and drivetrain.
With the cold start injector unplugged the car refused to start. I believe that the engine was actually flooded (just a guess) because when I popped the ’87 chip back in it would not restart immediately, but after sitting for a little bit it started like normal.
Is there anything else that needs to be done for ’89 code to run in an ’87?
(I’m sure that this has been asked before, but since most of the search terms that I can come up with are shorter then the minimum I wasn’t able to find anything by searching)

Huh, didn’t think of using wildcards to increase the search string length.
Are you sure on the VATS in ’89? I didn’t see anything in the editor and I did just sorta get it to run….
More exactly, I erased and re-burned the chip, popped it back in the memcal (I actually managed to get the original de-soldered cleanly enough that I just have the nice original socket to plug in and out of) an tried again. The first try it started right up and stalled after maybe 5 seconds. I tried again and it restarted and ran but the Check Engine lamp stayed lit. I shut it down and it refused to flash any codes…
Just to check I popped the original chip in and tried and it flashed 12. Popped the burned chip back in, started it and it ran without the light, no codes (but does flash now).
Both times it ran it ran similarly; with an incredibly low idle, barely running. After about 2-3min it started getting pretty touchy and if I didn’t goose the throttle every once in a while it would stall… somewhat surprising from a stock .bin with a stock L98. Not sure what the problem is now.

Wow, OK, VATS should be there 88 and up… considering that I didn’t do anything with it I’m wondering how my car is running at all. Now if only I could find it in tunerpro + the E6v011.ecu file…
(man this ecm stuff makes me feel like a retard)

funny thing, and I said this in the other thread, but the car seems to run the same with the vats flag checked or not...

Im kinda courious too. I have a 88 gta with the cold start injector. I instaled a memcal from a 89 corvett ( no cold start injector) and the car would barly start and when i did get it started it was way flooded. But once the car was running it ran fine. So I thought I would just unplug the cold start injector and everything would be fine....nope the car still floods out and will barly start. Do you have to use a PCM to match the prom from cold start to none cold start 88 to 89 or am I missing something?
