Gen 7 wiring
Gen 7 wiring
Don't know if this is the correct place to post, but I'm about to install unit on a '91 Fbird and was wondering how much of the origingal wiring harness stays put or is it all removed. Trying to avoid pitfalls.
Any help would be appreciated.

Might try and find White Racing, they used to make a number of adapters.
I've had the best luck just reworking the stock harness, some of the aftermarket stuff is just trash, IMO.

ok, don't want to scare ya,,
i love electrical work, nothin scares me, but let me tell you the general and his boys went all out when they did the tpi wire harness, my 84 TA was 2 seperate harnesses the IP harness and the PCM harness, unhooked all the sensors and pulled it out.
NOT THE SAME AS THE TPI!!! i think the GENERALS daughter had a sleep over and spent all there time BRAIDING the wires together and making it as intergrated with the IP harness as possible!!!
i set about 8 hours to just removing the harness, i didnt' have any diagrams and was cuttin and soldering to make everything run real nice.
it's not impossible but EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF LOOM and TAPE(and i mean EVERY) will need to be removed!!! just start at one end and work your way back. you won't believe the mess u have!
BUT. to wrap up. it was the most worthwhile time i've spent. usually things don't work for me on the first try and after u put your intial settings in it runs!!! maybe a bit rich, BUT IT RUNS!!!
hope i didn't scare you. if u have any questions give me a buzz
i'm in CT 860 919-1887, i'd be happy to help where i can.

I'd recommend This Place for an adapter harness. They seem to have a little better grasp on what needs to be wired to what, as opposed to the dan white stuff. No problems with paired injector drivers or missing wires...etc.
Otherwise, either the DFI or the stock harness can be made to work. If you're planning on going sequential, the stock injector harness may need some work anyway.

I have the Dan White plug and pray harness and i am not happy with it at all...after working with aDFIguy, i had to solder on a wire for the MAP sensor that was left off and completely re-wire the injectors.
I first attempted to remove the stock ECM harness, but once i found that all the harness's in the car are "braided" together, i looked for what i thought was going to be the easy way out.
When i do remove my engine, i will be installing the Accel harness, as my first priority!!1

I also have the dfi 7 I took out the stock harness. Major PITA. I couldn't tell which was for what ip or engine harness. So I left a awful mess of ip harness . I am cutting it all out and putting a new ip harness from painless. If I was to try keeping what I got it would take me 5 yrs to striaghten those wires out. Reason why so messy I took the dash out too as well and it just all cluttered up can't find what goes what. I got every wiring diagram known to man. If someone that lives in the houston area would be willing to give me some advice to help me out .that would be greatly appreciated.
One more thing....
Thanks for the input fellas...one more thing, the harness was for a Honda. After comparing schematics, there is no white bypass wire (pk1 ?). Is this really needed?
Trending Topics
The Bypass line goes from the ECM to an ignition module, and is used to control the switch between base timing from the ignition module, and computer controlled timing from the ECM via the EST output. The DFI is set up to crank at 0 degrees, so unless you need to do otherwise, you shouldn't need it.
I don't see any problem using a honda main wire harness other than wire lengths being off to some degree. Just be sure to check that you have a way of connecting to all of your fuel injectors. The honda stuff usually ships in a 4-cylinder configuration.
