What is the LT1 ECM casing made out of?

I am doing an LT1 swap into my 89 Camaro. I would like to have the ECM casing Ceramic coated but need to know what the casing is made out of? I thought it was cast aluminum but need to be sure. Anyone ideas?

the actual case on the outside is alum.

If your having it coated to save it from heat, I'd suggest a new location. And those coatings will also serve to keep it hotter.
YMMV

I was going to coat it for looks and I heard that that was the best thing to do as far as heat was concerned. ie better than powdercoating etc. It won't be maintinece free but I think I will just have it polished. It is going in a great location on the drivers side right above where the wiring goes into the car. Thanks for the input.

Keep in mind that the heat is generated by the electronics inside, so any thermal barrier coating is just going to hold more heat in.

For show cars, I've seen them painted, polished, powdercoated, and even chromed.

Most of mine are just oxidized

Well now that makes sense. I misunderstood ceramic coating. I was under the impression that it was a good heat conductor. It should have clued me in that as they use it on headers it would heat in.
