WinALDL Scanning Problems

Hi,

I'm just getting started into prom tuning and ecu scanning. I built myself an interface cable and tried it with no luck. No data would stream at all. I blamed the cable and built another one. The new one works, but won't stream any useful data. When I hook up and key on, the raw data feed boxes constantly fill with random numbers, like the prom id box and the mph box. Nothing else will read properly, and the dash board doesn't work. Also up near the configuration button, there's a little box with a red background and a 6 flashing in it. Does that tell anybody anything?

I have a pre-'87 TPI setup MAF so I would guess my ECU is the 1227165 series, which is what I set winaldl to. But I also flipped through all the ECU's and none of them seemed to stream information properly.

Any hints or ideas?

Sounds like the ECM is sending a Digital Dash data stream. IIRC shorting the A & B terminals on the ALDL connector will tell the ECM to send the standard diagnostic ALDL stream. Try it key on, engine off.

YAY!

It works! I put a 10K resistor between A and B to put the ECM into ALDL mode and it appears to be streaming information just like it should. Now to take it for a test drive and check out the BLM's and spark counts.

Thanks!
