ALDL Cable mounting?

Has anyone thought of hard mounting the db9 connector somewhere in their car? I don't know if you can leave the cable connected to the diagnostic port or not but if you can, it would be cool to permanently mount the db9 connector to the inside bottom of the ashtray. That way you could just open the ashtray and hook up a serial/usb adapter cable to your laptop whenever you needed it. Is this a possible project?

This is actually a good idea. If you are still running the stock TBI ECM a simple one transistor convertor is required. The cable can be left connected as it won't change any operating parameters of the ECM.

Then when you want to data log just plug in and go.
