ECM Swapping, whats the best?
I always see adds for certian ecm's. Some are better than others?
Is there a reason to get different ones?
My car is an 88 MAF L98. Is there a different ECM I should be looking for?
Whats the benifit?

Sometimes people will change their systems from MAF to SD. This entails an ECM change. A swap from TBI to TPI will entail an ECM change. The 2.8l engines used a rather restrictive MAF ECM that can be changed to the TPI '165 ECM.
Your setup uses the '165 ECM. If you wanted to go SD and get rid of the MAF then a swap to the '730 ECM is in order. Although there is Aussie code available for the '165 to run SD.
Folks that go boosted change the ECM and code to one that handles the wastegate and boost fueling and timing.
Just a whole bunch of reasons for changing and for not changing. It really depends upon what is currently in the vehicle and what direction the engine is going.
Oh, that brings up another ECM swap: an E transmission. There are ECMs (PCM actually) that will control an electronically shifted auto trans. So if going to a 4L80E trans (a TH400 with overdrive and electronic control) having a PCM that handles the trans and engine is a great swap.
