Is this memcal stock or has it been tampered with?

This is a pic of the memcal in my car. Looks like it's been tampered with. Note the resistor solderd to the pins.
Or is this really how GM made them???

I've never seen a factory memcal with a resistor like that on it. I would say that its someone's modification. Not sure for what purpose though. Those are the limp home mode chips by the way.

homemade??? ....are they not original?
Is it possible to make it run correctly by putting it into limp mode and programming those chips instead?
The last owner told me that when it was still in the US it was chiptuned.... seems like atleast something has been done to it.
