new scanner that wont read my iroc

so i bought this 460$ scanner hoping i could run a diagnostic on my car. after a little bit of research i found the port to plug it into and tried to run a scan. it says that my car is not responding. i ran it several times doing everything to trouble shoot the scanner according to the manual. i have a 88 iroc with a 91 5.7 in it. i tried both years to configure the scanner and nothing works. i have a autoxray 5000. can anyone help me?

tpi motors have a lip mode wich allowes them to run. This was because the tpi was origanly designed to be for marine use--at least that is what iI heard make sence high tork at a low rpm
