Wiring harness question

Is an 85 wiring harness different than a 86-89 wiring, if so whats the major difference, and will it work for an engine swap

'85 is somewhat different. Main differences were a lack of the MAF power and burnoff relays, and it used a different ECM.

You can use the '85 harness, but it will require some changes.

Luckily for you, Mike Davis documented the procedure for updating an '85 harness to work with the '165 ECM.
