ALDL cable 24 pin?

ALDL cable 24 pin?
i made a simple aldl cable, 2 10k resistors and 1 transistor, on a 9pin serial MALE connector
find out that my laptop doesnt have a 9 port serial, just what looks like the same size and shape as a 9 port but with more (im assuming that this is a 24pin one)
anyways, i looked at other computers, they seem to have male connections, guess i should have gotten the female adapter... anyways, anyone know what ports on the 24pin connector 2,4 and 5 are equal to? maybe i should just get an adapter/gender changer lol... ugh this sucks i just want to datalog

That sounds like it is the printer port. Can't be used in place of the serial. Check the laptop setup screen and see if it mentions a serial port. Some didn't come with one. Does it have a USB port? If so, may be able to use a serial to USB convertor.
