ECM help

This is for a buddy of mine, I am a thirdgenner myself.. I have an 89' Iroc...

Alright, My buddy has 1994 LT1. (I know nothing of 4th gens). From what I have gotten from him he has a OBD1. His car boiled over and from what I can tell most of his sensors are fried. The car is constantly surging as well as overheating.. While driving and at idle... My question for you guys.

Why would one of our computers when prompted to display trouble codes, only turn on the fans, not even flash a code twelve. All it does is blink no pauses..

First off, I am sure one of you guys will know if this is even the right computer, but if it is, did this get fried?

OK, I'll try. 1994 LT1 still has 12 pin diagnostic connector by Mitchell repair, if so are you promting for codes by jumping pins A&B? I am assuming you are. By the sounds of it, you are doing this with engine running, if so, don't. You can't get flash codes with engine running. Key on engine off.

As far as frying sensors from overheating, I doubt it. Unless it got to maybe 300 deg, if it did you have other problems.

As far as right computer? You haven't said what computer is in the car. The computer can't get fried from cooling system overheating.

Its not my car i am helping a kid via message board so what ever came stock.. as far cars I like non-computerized ****... as far as I know he is doing it the proper way via the A-B connector... And yes it will not fry the ecm with the engine running,, (I forgot to pull the paper clip once when I had to run an errand after troubleshooting a miss on my car, car is fine).

The kids radiator hose came off, splashing coolant all over the in engine electrical equipment.. Coiling igntion etc.. He continued to drive it without realizing it. The engine temp guage hit 260 from what he said, fried his temp guage. I am assuming it may have whacked out his sensors which is preferrable to a blown ecm.. He has a 12 pin dlc.

The car is surging and overheating,, from what I can tell, the loosening of the radiator hose has screwed this car. He has since fixed the hose and replaced the thermostat. The car is still overheating.. which suggests either a clog or a bad water pump.

He tried to pull the trouble codes and he said there is no pauses in the flashes.. Not knowing what computer is in this car I cannot give any advice. But rather I am having him go over the car step by step. Starting with the easy stuff that would cause these problems, to the harder stuff, but I have no knowledge of his computer... I will ask him how he is collecting the codes...

Thanks
