Timing drifting up and down

I have a GM 8pin ignition module and external coil with 1228079 ECM and CCC Q-jet. After Jumping A to B on the ALDL and setting the timing... the timing drifts up to 45* @ idle and then drifts back to 27*. I have the base set to 12*{stock was 6* I think}. At one time I had the base at 15* 16* and the timing would drift up to 52*!!! How is this possible when there is only 45* between the distributor post. Should I just set it to stock 6* and let it do it's own thing...looks like it's trying to do that anyway!!

Generally though...It runs really good!

thanks

Look for knock counts if running a knock sensor. IMO, you should leave the base timing stock and do it in the chip(if possible). The scan tool just reports a calculated value, not actual. So you really wasn't getting 52*.....
