code 43 = stupid ecm.

code 43 = stupid ecm.
i need to replace my ecm aperently i will find out for sure tommorow when i put it on the computer at work, but i ran the codes and it said code 43 which is knock sensor ecm and so on but im getting the symtoms of a bad ecm, so i decided to look into it and see what i need. of coaurse i need the ecm but should i get a new prom with it or just pull the original? and were is the best place to get one? i check out one of our sponsors (TPI PARTS) and they have some used ones for 75$ with out the prom..... is this a good way to go or should i go with a new one for 140$?

Have you checked the voltage to the knock sensor yet?.if so what was it?..If its over 6 volts ..make sure its not to close to ignition wires(plug wires)and its not shorted to voltage(wire that has power) or its like you mentioned faulty ECM..If its lower then 4 volts the wire is shorted to ground or its a bad ECM.If the wire is below 4 volts and is not shorted to ground most likey the ECM has an open circuit.Its possible a faulty mem-cal could be drawing the voltage down.Anyhow you should see 5 volts at the sensor.Hope that helps
