ECM compatibility?

I have a 85 IROC that we picked up from a kid that lost interest. He started to swap the engine from the stock 305 to a 350 but the ECM is the old 305 ecm/prom. The engine runs but wont start without help or idle. We think the problem is the computer just isnt programed correctly for the new engine. I have a yard near me that is a pick and pull with some 3rd gens on site that I was going to check for a possible ECM/Prom that came with a 350 but need to know what years used the same harness as the 85. Does anyone know of a resource that could tell me or know themselfs?

The 85 IROCs are by themselves you will need to find another 85 ECM to make it work or you better get some experience in re-pinning computers cause thats what you'll be doing.

Well it turns out the kid that had the car tried to put a new computer in it to begin with... So looks like i will be checking the pinout anyway as i have no assurance now that its stock.

TPI? If so, I would think a 87 L98 would be the same if not close.

yes its a TPI.... The Full story is the kid went to a local Tech school. They pulled the engine and put in a small block 350 with with the 305 heads and 350 injectors. IT currently has the stock computer in it that came with the 305 but not sure what the pinout really is on the harness right now. We do know the kid that was working on that car fried 2 new computers before putting the origonal computer back in the car and parking it.

If this helps ..might want to check the front page in this place.. in tech articles they just placed the pins for the 85 ECM's?

Update:

Well the wire colors didnt match up at the injectors so we started following them back and found that the kid had spliced in a different injector harness. So now we arnt even sure that the wires were hooked up correctly. Ahhh the joys of project cars!
